Due to microfiber’s unique bacterial removal properties, you can completely avoid harsh chemicals and stick to simple soap which, according to the School of Medicine at the University of California, kills bacteria and viruses. This equates to fewer and less dangerous chemicals being washed down the drain and potentially into the waterways.

“If I had to choose the one reason why I believe microfiber to be an environmentally friendly mopping method then I would choose the fact that microfiber mops drastically reduce the number of chemicals that end up being washed down the drain,” said Brian from Temples Pride, the creator of the Dredge microfiber mop. “The problem is that water treatment plants are not able to remove all the chemicals from the wastewater. There are 3 in particular that are causing some serious problems, nitrogen, phosphorus, and ammonia. These three chemicals are basically fertilizers and are responsible for the algal blooms that are wreaking havoc across our waterways. These blooms completely take over, deplete oxygen and thereby kill off everything else living in the water.”
