With the launch of the new service, Gena continues her mission of helping parents throughout the United States have a positive birth experience. By training more doulas, she hopes to empower families to take a nurturing and transformative approach to birth and see it as a journey rather than a goal. Her doula training approach is in line with her philosophy that “birth is an emergence, not an emergency”.
Gena combines her years of experience as a doula with the latest research in women’s health to help new doulas be a guide, friend, and mentor to expectant parents. In particular, she emphasizes protecting a mother’s neocortex to reduce pain and allow for a more natural, less painful birth.
Gena refers to a recent study published in the Journal of Gynecology – Obstetrics and Neonatology that suggests that happier and healthier mothers can inhibit their neocortex during birth, allowing the primitive brain to release the necessary hormones for pain relief and easier labor.
