Artefact Supports National Archaeology Week 15 to 21 May 2022

Artefact Heritage Services confirmed in an exclusive interview with Eleven Media that it is proud to support the National Archaeology Week with activities in all states and online from 15 to 21 May 2022.

National Archaeology Week aims to increase public awareness of Australian archaeology and the work of Australian archaeologists both at home and abroad, and to promote the importance of protecting Australia’s unique archaeological heritage.

Held in the third week of May, this nationwide program of events and activities includes public lectures, seminars, exhibitions, demonstration excavations, displays, and other events designed to engage with the general public.

Sandra Wallace, Managing Director at Artefact, said this when interviewed by Eleven Media, “The support of National Archaeology Week held in the third week of May each year is special to us as it is an opportunity to contribute to the understanding and importance of Archaeology to our nation. We are delighted to have two of our team as speakers. Michael Lever, Heritage Consultant (Aboriginal Archaeology) and Dr Iain Stuart, Principal (Major Projects).”

These are the topics, times and Sydney locations that the two Artefact Heritage Services speakers will be presenting:

Talk: Discovering Archaeology

Sun 15/5, 10am to 1pm, Marrickville

With Michael Lever and a panel of speakers

Talk: Known, Unknowns: The Archaeology of the Devonshire Street Cemetery

Wed 18/5, 6:30 to 7:30pm

With Dr Iain Stuart

Since April, Dr Iain Stuart is the new President of the Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS) and he will give his first talk as a President during the event.

Elanor Pitt, Artefact Heritage Consultant (Built Heritage), is the Events Coordinator for the Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology (ASHA). She is working behind the scenes to assist ASHA with organising a number of events as part of National Archaeology Week.
