According to Politico and The Wall Street Journal, the current administration is seriously considering opening up a special enrollment period for the ACA that is outside of the normal window in the very near future. Currently, 11 of the 12 states that have their own exchanges have already done so to ensure everyone has the coverage they need to receive corona virus testing and treatment. This treatment is critical to reducing the spread of the deadly virus. But the other 38 states that have yet to do this are under federal regulations and saw their regular open enrollment period end on December 15. A spokeswoman for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said that may change as lawmakers continue to evaluate the needs of most Americans — especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
