A new case study from leading outdoor screen provider, Phantom Screens, provides insight and statistics into climate control solutions for a popular Richmond, BC restaurant.

Phantom Screens has gained a reputation across North America for providing custom solutions to outdoor screening problems for both residential and commercial applications. A recent case study released by Phantom Screens revealed such a solution that was provided to The Deck Kitchen + Bar located in Richmond, BC.
The Deck is unique in that it sports a 7,000 square foot deck that overlooks the Fraser River. The owner of the restaurant was seeking a solution that would allow visitors to enjoy a waterfront dining experience all year round rather than being limited to the spring and summer months. With the deck accounting for around 70% of the restaurant’s seating, it was important to find a year-round solution.
Phantom Screens installed 17 motorized vinyl screens that block the cool winds off the Fraser River while still preserving the beautiful view of the waterfront allowing year-round service for the patio.
“The 17 motorized screens are located on the vast deck, helping enclose the area from inclement weather to create customer comfort,” stated an excerpt from the case study. “According to the manager, the screens have helped avoid many challenges such as “people not being so inclined to sit on the patio, since it’s cold with the marine air breeze”. Phantom’s screens have allowed customers to dine in comfort all year round, even in snowy and rainy conditions. Having the deck on water poses concerns of high winds and cold temperatures. However, the durable screens hold up to it, and provide a sustainable solution to control climate – by keeping heating & A/C costs down. The screens blend in seamlessly with the West Coast architectural design & décor of the restaurant – and retract completely out of sight when not in use. Additionally, the vinyl material is crystal clear, preserving the amazing view of the river and wildlife that surrounds the restaurant.”
“Phantom Screens are fantastic – they’re one of a kind, and very customizable. Our guests absolutely love them,” said Sean Palmer, General Manager The Deck Kitchen + Bar.
Similar solutions have been provided to restaurants in the BC’s popular interior. The Cactus Club restaurants in Kelowna, BC, a popular tourist destination, have been fully outfitted with screens for both their locations in the city. The Cactus Club location by the Kelowna Yacht Club in particular had similar issues to The Deck in Richmond with cool winds commonly blowing off the Okanagan Lake.
Phantom Screens Okanagan was able to provide a solution, installing mesh screens that filter both the wind and harmful UV rays, allowing for a comfortable and trendy dining experience for all.
