North Central Phoenix Homeowners Call for End to Homeowner Irrigation

President of the North Central Phoenix Homeowners Association Mary Crozier announced today that she is calling for an end to SRP irrigation in her neighborhood.

According to a recent article in the Guardian, just 1% of Phoenix metro population receives irrigation and the Salt River Project delivered almost 60,000 acre-feet of water to that 1% in 2019.

NCPHA is also calling on City of Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and council to enact stricter personal water usage restrictions starting immediately.

Statement from President Mary Crozier:

“I am calling on all NCPHA homeowners to stop using flood irrigation, and for SRP to end this wasteful water allocation. When one acre-foot of water can sustain three families for a year, it is reckless and wasteful for homeowners to use precious water to flood their lawns. We are in a crisis that requires drastic response. If farmers are being forced to cut back on their water usage, so should homeowners. My neighborhood is leading the way into our water-conscious future.”

For more than forty years the North Central Phoenix Homeowners Association has guarded North Central from commercial and residentially inappropriate encroachment. It is the mission of the NCPHA to maintain and enhance the residential neighborhood. The NCPHA supports growth and development which is part of a vigorous economy and growing city, as long as it is responsibly guided within appropriately zoned areas. It is our goal to ensure that the beauty, charm and history of the neighborhood is preserved.
