Rotomolding leader Granger Plastics Company follows suit of other industry captains such as Amazon & Disney to raise starting pay to $15 per hour.

Economic indicators continue to show signs of positive economic growth across the globe as many companies struggle to fill open jobs amongst the ever shrinking pool of employable candidates. In effort to fill positions with quality candidates to continue to fill customers growing needs, one Ohio based plastics roto-molding company, Granger Plastics has announced an increase in starting pay to $15 per hour. The state of Ohio currently touts an unemployment rate of around 4.5%, while Butler County, where Granger Plastics resides claims an even lower unemployment of 4.1%. The state of Ohio’s minimum wage is currently $8.30 per hour. While Granger was previously starting employees at $13 an hour, it still seemed to be a titanic struggle to find capable and willing to work employees, as simply showing up for the job seemed to be a skill that unfortunately many of the unemployed lack or do not take serious.
Granger Plastics has attempted to stay on the forefront of acquiring better than average rotomolding talent and employees by offering “better than industry” norm starting pays as exhibited by the previous $13 per hour starting rate and the new $15 per hour starting rate. “Many of our competitors still pay just at or slightly above minimum wage. We’ve made adjustments to our employee’s pay rates in effort to continue growing with our customer’s demands and further invest in maintaining our employees that we wish to put stock into so they can grow with us” stated Shawn Cravens, General Manager of Granger Plastics.
Granger’s starting pay increase follows suit in a tightening labor market where jobs continue to outnumber labor pool candidates actively looking for gainful employment. Other industry titans such as Disney and Amazon have both committed recently to raising the starting wages to $15 per hour for employees. Some companies such as Target are taking gradual steps to raise their starting pay to $15 per hour by 2020. Granger’s starting pay increase is effective immediately. In response to the news of Amazon’s starting wage increase, National Economic Council director Larry Kudlow recently stated “Higher wages. Terrific. By the way, more people working and prospering- and you’ve heard me say this before, is not inflationary.”
$15 per hour wages has become a political platform for politicians, unions and lobbyists alike. Mounting public political pressure from the likes of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont have recently began calling for companies like McDonalds to raise their starting minimum wage to $15 per hour. A 2015 study by the Berkeley Center for Labor Research and Education shows that 40 percent of fast food workers live in poverty and 52 percent of all fast food workers are dependent upon public assistance programs such as food stamps, Medicaid and child care subsidies. This same report adds that some states like California and New York spend over $3 billion on public assistance per year.
