Drug Lawyer Asserts: Drug Trafficking On I-80 Is Only Going To Get Worse

After a string of high-profile drug busts related back to drug trafficking on I-80, Nebraska drug lawyer Dan Stockmann foresees more busts and higher rates of trafficking.

Drug trafficking on I-80 has been a major concern for local officials over the last few years, but locals may have noticed that the number of drug trafficking arrests has increased over the last few weeks. It is a major highway that connects San Francisco to New York, making it the most popular way to get drugs across the country. This drug corridor has been the focus of intense federal and state scrutiny, leading to more arrests. Drug trafficking lawyer Daniel Stockmann doesn’t foresee an end to this trend.

“People living and working around the highway will likely hear more sirens, experience more traffic back-ups, and see more police vehicles on the street,” the Nebraska drug trafficking lawyer says. “The focus will continue to be on stopping and searching out of state and rental vehicles, but it is going to impact all of us.”

The basis of this police presence won’t be to increase the number of arrests for simple possession, but rather to dissuade drug trafficking on I-80. “The arrests for simple possession will be collateral damage in all of this,” Stockmann says. “They are going after the people who transport hundreds of pounds of marijuana, pills, and other illegal substances.”

Stockmann also predicts that the scrutiny does have some basis, “The statistics show that drug use is on the rise across the United States. There are going to be more people transporting drugs to pockets of the country where they can sell them fairly easily – states like Kentucky, Colorado, Indiana, West Virginia, Michigan, Missouri, and the District of Columbia all get drugs that were trafficked using I-80.”

As for a decrease in police presence, Stockmann doesn’t see that coming, “It is only going to get worse,” he says.
