Chicago-based Social Jack is urging social media users to protect themselves, after Facebook admitted to storing millions of Instagram users’ password in plain text. The social media giant said in March passwords to Facebook and Instagram accounts were stored in a database accessible by employees. While the company says it fixed the problem, Social Jack’s CEO Dean DeLisle encourages users to stay safe online.
In a recent interview with Katie Kim of NBC Chicago, DeLisle said Instagram has become a “playground” for hackers. Thieves generally target influencers with large followings who monetize the platform. “The technology has moved so fast,” he says, “no one can keep up with the protection aspect of it.”
Dean DeLisle’s Chicago-based Influencer Development company, Social Jack, seeks to educate everyone on how to best protect their brand while growing in business. Through dynamic courses targeted to specific audiences, Social Jack’s Digital Citizenship classes teach participants about cyber security, strong password techniques, how to spot scammers and avoid hackers, and important steps to keep their personal information private.
“Everyone has a level of influence,” said DeLisle. “And Social Jack is committed to helping influencers keep their information safe online.”
Social Jack’s Digital Citizenship program is available in a range of workshops from a one-day to an eight-week course and catered to a variety of audiences such as influencers, parents, businesses, and classrooms. In addition to internet safety, instructors will also guide participants through the most effective Social Networks, Digital and Mobile responsibilities.
