While women have undeniably made major strides in business within recent history, Vanessa notes that there is still plenty of work to be done and obstacles that need to be overcome. She observes that women often feel the need to overcompensate for their feminine qualities in the workplace, and allow themselves to feed into their insecurities instead of celebrating their valuable skills and ability. As she puts it, “Women need to be proud of their femininity and grow in their skills so they may be confident in what they bring to the table.” Vanessa also asserts that no one has the right to dictate a woman’s income but that woman herself, without exception.
When asked on what key takeaways she has gleaned from building a company,
Vanessa urges the importance of understanding that not everything goes as planned, that there is always a solution to be found, and that there is real value in checking your emotions at the door. She comments, “You have control over the destination, but not the journey of arriving there. Focus 100% of your mental energy on what the next step is. Go as far as you can see. Once you get there you’ll be able to see further. Don’t allow emotions to lead your business. Stick to your plan no matter what.”
When it comes down to it, being and becoming the best version of herself is her true priority. She reflects, “I believe the more I can develop my skills and experience, the more value I can create. Not only for myself or for my income, but also for those around me— my husband, my children, family, friends, and business partners.”
