Chartered Software Developer Association Develops Technology Industry Standards to Drive ESG Focused IT Strategies

Chartered Software Developer Association (“CSDA”) brings together leading standards technology practitioners & researchers for industry-wide cooperation on setting standards needed for ESG revolution. The Association will map out the coding strategies that can reduce CO2 emissions.
Data centers are the untold energy emitters of the IT industry. According to the International Energy Agency, data centers account for 0.3% of all global CO2 emissions. While this is much lower than the transport industry, which accounted for 23% of CO2 emissions in 2021 (according to the IEA), data centers are still significant emitters of CO2. Carbon-friendly coding instils more sustainable practices that can reduce emissions.
ESG revolution is not only applicable for physical world, it should also be adopted in virtual world like in the metaverse due to the interoperability between the two spaces. For this, CSDA has joined Metaverse Standards Forum formed by Meta, Microsoft and other tech giants as Principal organization to promote ESG practice in metaverse.
Other than decarbonization Coding Strategies, CSDA will also focus on Cybersecurity, Coding Best Practice, etc. One of the critical industry trends to watch for is Cybersecurity skills gap issue that contributed to 72% of breaches in Asia.
