Full-service restorative and cosmetic dentist Natural Smile Dental St Heliers (09 585 0205), serving the Glendowie, Kohimarama, Mission Bay, Orakei, Meadowbank, and St Johns Auckland areas is announcing an update in implant procedures that uses 3D technology to significantly reduce time and costs.

—
The newly updated service offers implant candidates a convenient, cost-effective alternative to traditional implant procedures which can involve impression trays, temporary crowns, and days or weeks of waiting. Known as CERC, short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEramic REConstruction, the method uses 3D digital imaging and machine software that mills the crown. This new procedure can be completed in a single appointment.

Dr. Dave Richards opened Natural Smile Dental St Heliers in 2014. All general and cosmetic dentistry treatments are offered, including veneers, tooth extraction, bridges, dentures, crowns, root canals, teeth whitening, inlays, onlays, and complete smile makeovers. With the introduction of the CEREC implant method, patients can now save close to $2,000 on their dental bills thanks to technology that produces a more efficient crown milling process and a more accurate fit.
This all-in-one process takes approximately one hour and a half from beginning to end. It begins with the CEREC Omnicam, a tool the size of a toothbrush, which takes a 3D digital portrait of a patient’s mouth. The CEREC grinding and milling unit cuts the new restoration (crown) based on the 3D specifications. Depending on the type of ceramic used to create the crown, a few minor adjustments to the paint may be required. This ensures a quality colour match which is then placed in the CEREC Speedfire to produce what will then become a brand new, fully functioning simulated tooth.
Implants offer a range of benefits to those with missing teeth. They help maintain the integrity of the bone structure after tooth loss, and, since there is no bridgework, they preserve the health of adjacent teeth.
Implants function and feel like natural teeth. They improve facial appearances by preventing bone loss, distribute bite forces evenly throughout the mouth, and can even be used to replace loose-fitting dentures.
With an update in services to include the time and cost-reducing CEREC method, Dr. Dave and his team at Natural Smile Dental St Heliers are giving residents throughout this Auckland region the opportunity to once again enjoy their original smile at prices that are far more affordable than obsolete lab-dependant methods.
